An exciting addition to Drakesbad Guest Ranch this summer will be the introduction of our Activities Coordinator, John Haigler. John comes to us from the San Diego area where he has worked as in the County Outdoor Education Program as a Naturalist and Outdoor Education teacher for the past 25 years. He has lead thousands of students on nature studies over the years and can’t wait to “get on the trail” at Drakesbad.
Guided Hikes: Learn about the fauna and flora on the numerous trails near Drakesbad in Lassen Volcanic National Park. And don’t miss the night hikes at dusk to view the local wildlife before they bed down for the night.
Fishing: Learn the basics of tying fishing knots, bait and tackle and trying your hand at catching some of the famous wild trout in streams near Drakesbad.
Craft Projects: will be offered each afternoon and will include wood crafts, making beaded necklaces and leather bracelets, and best of all, learning the skills of making Water Wheels from native materials to be tested in local streams.
Treasure Hunts: Get clues to find the hidden treasurers around the Ranch!
Ice Cream Socials: Cool off down at the pool with a special treat after a day of activities.
Sing-Alongs, Stories, Skits, and S’more Around the Campfire: No explanation needed!
Starry Starry Nights: There is no where quite as perfect as Drakesbad to view the night sky! Telescopes will be set up to view the thousands of stars, constellations, the moon and the summer planets.
Archery: Back by popular demand for children and adults. Try your hand at hitting the bull’s eye! Instruction and equipment provided.
And if that’s not enough… don’t forget other FREE Drakesbad activities including horseshoes, badminton, volleyball, Ping-Pong AND fun in the hot springs pool (cooled off enough in the daytime for plenty of splashing)!
